Pierre Frey’s
When Paris & New York mean Family and Business

What makes you a real paryorker? The fascination for New York, which I inherited from my father when I was little and which he encouraged by taking me there regularly on vacation. The second reason, which is related to the first, is that the USA is the biggest export market for the family company.

Do you know any other paryorkers? Amanda Chapuy de Montal.
How do these two cities contribute to balancing your personal and/or your professional life? New York for its dynamism, its creativity, its eclecticism, its mixture of cultures and, of course, its party spirit… Paris for its charm, its restaurants, its architecture, its museums, my roots… I could never live without it.

What’s the difference between the New-Yorker you and the Parisian you? The lack of dynamism in Paris (compared with NYC) has always made me want to shake up the city. In NYC there’s no point, the city can manage very well by itself and strangely I take more time for myself there than in Paris.

What is your favorite Parisian walk? Strolling along the riverbanks at dawn in the spring.

What’s the first thing you do when you set foot in Paris? Coffee, croissant, orange juice and newspaper, without a doubt!

And the last one, when you leave? Shopping at a deli for my friends and family (and myself).

Do you have a ritual that’s intimately related to the city? Walking in the gardens of the Palais Royal… It’s a must!

What’s the best time of day for you in Paris? Between 7pm and 9pm – the end of the day and beginning of the evening…

What excites you about Paris? The little district bistros.

What annoys you? The waiters who hardly look at you when they take your order and seem put out by the customers.
