What’s the difference between the New-Yorker you and the Parisian you? The New Yorker works way too much, The Parisian works way too little. Both are ok by me. The New Yorker rides a bicycle, the Parisian a scooter. People in NY believe life presents you with problems whereas Parisians believe life presents you with dilemmas. The difference is that while problems can be solved dilemmas can only be examined or investigated.
What images do these two cities bring to mind? Almost all cinematic – NY is “Taxi Driver”, “Dog Day Afternoon”, “Midnight Cowboy”, “Manhattan”, “Naked City”, “Do The Right Thing”, “Shadows”, “After Hours”… Paris is “Le Samouraï”, “A Bout De Souffle”, “Two Or Three Things I Know About Her”, “Last Tango In Paris”. “Diva”, “Les Amants Du Pont-Neuf”,… and Claude Lelouch’s “Rendez-vous” - a masterpiece!
